Treble Crochet Decrease (tr2tog/tr3tog)
UK term: Treble Crochet Together
UK abbreviation: tr2tog, tr3tog, etc
USA term: Double Crochet Together
USA abbreviation: dc2tog, dc3tog, etc
Notes:
When working tr (USA dc) stitches decreases are usually made by working a multiple number of stitches together.
Tutorial (2trtog):
1. To begin, work the stitch in the usual way, by wrapping the yarn around the hook and inserting the hook into the stitch.
2. Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull through.
3. Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through 2 of the 3 loops already on the hook but do not go on to complete the stitch. We have made part of 1 treble (USA dc) stitch.
4. Instead, wrap the yarn over the hook and insert the hook into the next stitch.
5. Wrap the yarn again and pull through the stitch.
6. Wrap the yarn and pull through 2 of the 4 loops already on your hook. We have now made part of the second treble.
7. To complete the stitch and join the 2 part stitches together, wrap the yarn around the hook and pull through the 3 already on the hook.
8. This completes the tr2tog (USA dc2tog).
9. The decrease has now been made and 2 stitches have now been reduced down to 1.
Tutorial (3trtog):
1. After step 6 above, wrap the yarn around the hook, insert the hook into the next stitch, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through the first 2 of the loops on your hook. This has made 3 part tr (USA dc) stitches and you will now have 4 loops on your hook.
2. To complete the stitch and join the 3 partly made tr (USA dc) stitches together, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through the 4 loops already on the hook.
3. This completes the tr3tog (USA dc3tog) and 3 stitches have been reduced down to 1.
